Since Claire was young, she knew that her calling was to help people. Claire has many years of specialized experience working with children and their families who have been touched with developmental disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Learning Disabilities, ADHD, Attachment Disorders and many others. She also has experience working with foster parents, adoptive parents, and family members (kinship caregivers) who have taken a child or children into care.
Claire, in her own personal journey of battling Chronic Migraines, has developed a passion for working with people who experience chronic pain and chronic illness. She also has a special interest in supporting those who have experienced Trauma and Complex Trauma.
Claire's theoretical approach includes using unique, creative interventions which include: Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (with Mindfulness), Art Therapy, Play Therapy and a strength-based, trauma-informed approach to support her clients. She believes that the counselling process starts with the ability to connect to the person in front of her and that the approach should be unique with each of her clients. Claire wishes to act as a co-author and ally in supporting those who come to her for counselling support. She is flexible to what works best for her clients.
Claire has training in EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), ABA (Applied Behavioural Analysis), Sandtray Therapy, Anxiety, Grief and Loss, Mindfulness, and Somatic Therapy for Trauma.
Claire also has specialized training in Theraplay, a form of therapy that enhances attachment, self-esteem and joyful engagement. During her time at the Third Academy, she was able to practice Theraplay with parents, caregivers, classroom assistants and teachers.
Claire is currently a Canadian Certified Counsellor and a Registered Provisional Psychologist in Canada. Claire is working under the supervision of Aspen Gowers and Zeljko Puric. Claire is working towards specializations in EMDR and Play Therapy.
Claire is inspired by the resiliency of the human spirit. She expresses that it has been a privilege to act as a witness to the stories of the people she has worked with so far.
