About Erin Harwood
Erin has practiced as a Registered Social Worker since 2012, and graduated with a Master’s of Social Work (Clinical Specialization) from the University of Calgary. Currently, she is working towards authorization to complete restricted psychosocial interventions and designation as a Registered Clinical Social Worker (RCSW). Erin worked as a Program Manager at a domestic violence shelter between 2013 and August of 2019. Currently she works casually as a social worker with Alberta Health Services and part-time with Wheatland County Counselling in Drumheller, as a therapist.
Erin has gained most of her experience working within the field of domestic violence, leading to experience with individuals facing complex concerns such as: addictions, mental health and trauma. This experience has encouraged Erin to invest in professional development focused in trauma informed practices, as well as solution-focused and motivational interviewing techniques which support short-term, goal oriented intervention strategies. Erin has worked extensively within a crisis intervention framework, and developed skills in risk assessment and safety planning. She has also trained and had experience working from a gender inclusive lens and holds strong values generally in inclusive practices.
Erin has an interest in narrative and family system therapy frameworks, believing that past experiences form ones perception of self and credits relationships as key elements to development, attachment and healing. Focusing on client’s intrinsic strengths and prioritizing the therapeutic relationship, are chief considerations in her practice and journey with clients towards wellness.
